The Port is happy to report that business activity is finally coming back to the Port District. Executive Director, Andrea Klaas, has been relentless in following business leads and opportunities. Though our work unfortunately takes more time than we’d care to see it’s nonetheless exciting to be in the middle of an upswing. 2014 is shaping up to be “The Year of The Dalles!”
If you take a look around you’ll notice the changes as well. Just ask Lisa Farquharson at The Dalles Chamber of Commerce how successful the tour boat season turned out. Early reports indicate an even more active tour boat season next year with an additional forty trips planned on top of 2013’s sixty.
The Dalles is also gearing up for an active Holiday Season. Word is Santa Clause will be in downtown The Dalles every Saturday between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Back in the Port Area the recent expansion news from Google is kicking off a brash of construction along the river. Google is expanding on their campus area and construction is already under way. On the Port’s North Chenoweth property construction will begin around January 1, 2014. The Port is in the middle of procuring a contractor and hopes to have negotiated a successful contract for construction by early December. The Port is already fielding several leads and looks to expand upon the burgeoning high-tech sector in the Columbia River Gorge.
There’s also news of a new brewery called Defiance Brewing to be located in downtown The Dalles by spring 2014. The Dalles, long time without it’s own brewery, will join many other Oregon cities with a signature location to grab a mug of suds.
All of this makes for an exciting time to be in The Dalles. The Port looks to continue its work in expanding economic opportunities for the district and anticipates a 2014 for the ages!
