Hege Completes Executive-Level Economic Development Course
Participants Explore New Ways to Leverage Resources and Stimulate Growth
Scott Hege, Executive Director of the Port of The Dalles recently completed an executive-level course designed to help economic development partners more effectively leverage resources to attract new investment, create jobs and stimulate the economy.
The Utility Economic Development Association (UEDA) sponsored the course, Leveraging Scarce Economic Development Resources through Strategic Partnerships, which was conducted at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management in Chicago, Ill. UEDA and the Kellogg School are developing the next generation of economic development education to equip leaders with the tools they need to succeed, according to UEDA President Tim Comerford.
About 30 state, local and regional economic development managers; utility executives; elected officials and private-sector partners focused on partnering, negotiations and managing change to help strengthen economic development efforts. Participants worked in teams to develop strategies they can implement in their home region.
“This was a great opportunity for me,†said Hege. “The Executive Program packs a lot of information into three days.â€
"As many states, economic development organizations and utilities grapple with tight budgets, creative solutions are needed to achieve their goals," Comerford said. “Strategic partnerships are the foundation for leveraging resources and developing sustainable changes that will stimulate growth.â€
