The Port of The Dalles is peeking into the nooks and crannies of the local industrial land base in an effort to identify land that may be available for development and redevelopment in the Industrial (I) or Commercial Light Industrial (CLI) zones of The Dalles.
“As the regional economy has blossomed, the number of businesses contacting the Port seeking employment land has really grown,” said Andrea Klaas, Port Executive Director. “Our land base available for all growth is constrained by surrounding Exclusive Farm Use land and the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, so we need to make sure we are doing the most with the land we have.”
Kathy Ursprung, Marketing Manager for the Port, sent a letter to all land owners in the Commercial Light Industrial zone, as identified on the Wasco County GIS map, asking about land and building availability.
“It has been my experience that land owners may consider selling or leasing their property, even when it isn’t listed with a real estate agent,” Kathy says. “I’m developing a listing of these properties so that when someone calls with a need, we know what may be available to meet that need. Most of the inquiries we get are for land of five acres or above, but we also get quite a few requests involving smaller properties, particularly lease space.”
