Employers with 10 or more employees will be required to provide at least five paid sick days per year and those with fewer than 10 employees at least five unpaid sick days per year under a new law, SB454, passed by the Oregon Legislature and signed by the Gov. Kate Brown.
Employees will accrue at least one hour of sick time for every 30 hours worked. Number of employees is determined by the average for the last 20 weeks of the preceding year. New employees will have a wait period of 90 days before accrued time may be taken, according to an article by HR Answers, Inc.
The law will become effectiveJan. 1, 2016.
